Reciting Verses（背诗）

Hello everyone. My name is Liu Shuo. My English name is Simon. I’m 12 years old now. I’m studying at Ji Long Road Primary School.

When I was about 4 years old, my father taught me verses all the time. One day, my father said, “ Come here, Liu Shuo. Recite this verse.” I looked at that verse and said, “ Oh, it’s too long. I can’t recite it.” Unexpectedly, my father became angry. He tried to make me recite it. At that time, I didn’t like verses.

Last year, there was a “ Verse Reciting Competition” at my school. I won the competition with my father’s help. After that, I became interested in reciting verses. I think I can recite any verse no matter its length. Looking back on those days, I gave up so much of my free time. Instead, I spent my time reciting verses and learning useful things. It would not have been easy for a child like me to use time wisely without my father’s proper guidance. Now, I feel great and I know all of my past efforts were worthwhile. As my parents and teachers always say, “No pain, no gain”.

I want to thank my father for providing me with good guidance and for being strict with me at times. It was he who helped me realize this achievement. I will go on to work hard. I believe I can do better.
