    My name is Liu Xiaotong. I’m 14 years old. Though I am young, I have been studying English for 8 years.

    At first, it was a real hard time that I had to go through since I knew nothing about the phonetic symbols. So I had to note down pronunciation of words one by one with Chinese characters! ‘How silly I was then!’ I think to myself sometimes. And every time I read them later in life, I felt really amused. Though funny, that was my jumping-off point of English study indeed.

    Everything has a hard beginning. So have I. At the very beginning, I had little confidence in learning English well. The first time I took part in summer camp activities was in 2002. The teachers were so kind and patient to me and gave me a lot of help and instruction. At that time, I got more confidence in myself.

    There is another person who gives me more support and constant help. She is my schoolteacher, a smart young lady. She not only teaches me how to learn but encourages me to participate in many different kinds of English competitions as well. She tends to find merits on me. Followed by her instructions, my interests in English are growing rapidly. And I also make up my mind to study well just for my teacher’s sake. Because she once said I have a big talent in English, and I won’t let her down.

     Of course, I know it is easier said than done，yet I’m lucky to be blessed by my teacher’s encouragement. I am ready to go all out to realize it, and I surely believe that where there is a will there is a way!

    我叫刘晓彤，今年14岁，别看我年纪小，算起来学英语已经有八年了。

    起初，我对什么是音标一无所知，所以学起来很吃力，书上的好多单词都是用汉字标记的发音，以至于后来每每看到这本书的时候都会觉得很好笑。但就从那时起，我开始了我的英语学习。

    万事开头难。刚开始的时候,我对学好英语没有太大信心。是2002年的一次英语夏令营活动让我开始自信起来。当时老师给予了我很多耐心的指导和亲切的鼓励。

    还有一个人，给予了我更多更持久的帮助。那就是我现在的英语老师，一位既漂亮又充满智慧的女士。她善于发现我的优点，不但教会我正确的学习方法，而且还鼓励我参加各种各样的英语比赛活动。在她的谆谆教导下，我对英语的兴趣逐渐加强，并且还做出了一个重要决定：一定要学好英语不让老师失望。因为老师曾说过我对英语学习颇有天赋。

    当然，我知道说着容易做起来难，但老师的鼓励和期许给了我莫大的动力和信心。我会全力以赴，坚信有志者事竟成！
