My Neighbor (我的邻居)

Hello! My name is Xie Tianyi. You can call me Robin. I’m 11 years old.

I like playing computer games, but my mother and father tell me that I can’t play them at home. On Sundays, I can play computer games with my neighbor Jack. Jack is not only a neighbor, but also a close friend of mine. He is tall and strong, but he is not very active. I usually help him study math and English. In return, he lets me play games on his computer. Last week, our teacher said to us: “We’ll have a test next week.” Hearing this, I decided to help Jack review the English lessons.

First, I tested his knowledge of English words. I asked him to spell the words I gave him. “Spell the word fish,” I said. Then, he answered “F-I-S-H”. “Spell the word eggplant!” I commanded. He answered, “E-G-G-P-L-E-N-T”. “No. It should be E-G-G-P-L-A-N-T,” I said.

Finally, I tested his ability to understand sentences. I gave him Chinese sentences, and he translated them into English.

After that, I felt very tired. From this experience I learned that being a teacher is not easy. But I like my neighbor, so I will continue to help him with his English and math.
