Persistence Is Success

   Hello, everyone! My name is Ye Songtao. I’m ten years old. Eddie is my English name. I’m a tall and plump primary student with short hair. I have a sweet family that includes my Dad, who is a service man, and my Mom, who is a career woman. I’m interested in astronomy. I often read scientific books about astronomy. I know the Earth is one planet of our solar system; the Moon is the secondary planet of the Earth.

   I began learning English at age five. In the beginning, it was mum who guided me to my seat every time. I studied in the classroom while my mother waited outside the door. Not only did I learn a lot of English, but I also gained an interest in English and in the spirit of industrious learning. On the way home, I would introduce new words, sentences and funny sayings to my mother. One year later, I had made great progress. I could recite an essay named The Ugly Duckling, which contains at least 150 words. Mother thinks this is a remarkable achievement, because before a year ago, I couldn’t even do that in Chinese! No matter how long the road, nor how bad the weather, I never stopped my study of English.

   Now, I have enrolled in primary school. I must spend a lot of time doing homework. The time I can spend studying English has been reduced. I must now choose between my English studies and my homework. I try to do my homework while in school and use the after-school hours to study English. This method is very effective and allows me to do both things.

   Now, I am studying the first book of the New Concept English series. I don’t know if it’s a result of my gifted memory or my firm foundations, but I can recite a text each week and spell all the new words and phrases according to my teacher’s requirements. Persistence brings progress, I do believe.
