On Conquering Difficulties

   Difficulties may hinder her progress at times, but they do not cool her passion or motivation to move ahead.

   Several years ago, there was a girl named Catherine. She lived in a little town. When she danced, she looked like a white swan, and her actions were light-footed and beautiful. When she sang, she looked like an angel, and her voice was very sweet and clear. So everyone was touched by her and liked her very much. Her parents, as well as the residents of the little town, were proud of her.

   One day, unfortunately, Catherine discovered that her knee always protruded when she tried to straighten her leg, a very serious disadvantage for dancers. Moreover, she suffered from chronic pharyngitis and experienced a lot of pain in her throat when she sang. She loved dancing and singing deeply.

   An elder man decided to help her overcome the difficulties after hearing of her problems. He asked her kindly and softly, “Catherine, do you like dancing and singing?” Catherine nodded firmly. The elder man asked, “Then why don’t you continue to do what you like to do?” “Can I?” Catherine asked doubtfully. The man said, “Sure! What do you have on your palm? There is the line of life, the line of wisdom, and the line of health. What do you have if you clench your fist?” The man smiled. Suddenly, Catherine understood, and she thanked the man and went back home. From that day, she began to train to make her knee straight and to sing with ease. Day after day, Catherine returned to the stage of the little town and performed for people. They welcomed her as before. Catherine finally conquered the difficulties herself, and came to understand how to face and conquer other difficulties in her life.

   Oh, one more thing. I am Catherine.
