My Hometown
Hello, everyone! My name is MengXiaolin, I'm 16 years old. I'm now studying in No.38 Middle School.
Qingdao is my birthplace. It lies on the east coast of China. It's a very beautiful city and is often called the “Oriental Switzerland”.
The centerpiece of Qingdao is the May 4th Square. It is named after a historical event in Chinese history: the May 4th Movement. The May 4th Square is situated between the new municipal government building and Fushan bay. It consists of a large central square and a coastal park. A large torch-like sculpture called “May 4th Wind” lies in the center of the square and has become the symbol of Qingdao.
Another famous site in Qingdao is Zhanqiao Pier which was built in 1891 by the Germans. The Pier stretches 440 meters long into the ocean. At the southern end of the pier, there is a traditional Chinese octagonal pavilion called Huilan Pavilion. At the northern end there is a seashore park with a garden full of flowers, making it a perfect place to enjoy the sea and relax.
Qingdao doesn't have as many historic sites as that of Beijing or Xi'an, but Qingdao is best known for its natural beauty. To live in Qingdao is to live close to nature.
I love my beautiful hometown Qingdao ! Thank you!
